Magnet App

Apps look horribe when you try to use them. This app was just a waste of $.99

It’s Great! One Of Three Apps I’ve Purchased In The Last Three Years

It’s a super simple low cpu using application allowing you to finally and flawlessly organize your mac display properly and orderly. It’s quick and comes with more options than I thought it did.For instance, the maximize feature which automatically fills the current desktop with the window currently being dragged, saving you from having to click the green arrows. Also the fact that it runs in the menu bar is a thoughtful feature. I’d highly recommend it

One serious annoyance that cannot be turned off

This is a pretty good application that does what it says. But it has one peculiar feature that is so annoying it makes Magnet essentially unusable for me. The problem is that when you move a window manually (dragging it with the mouse) and you happen to slide it all the way up to the top of the screen with a move that causes the cursor encroach even a little bit into the menu bar, then Magnet suddenly does an unexpected “maximize” on the window, blowing it up to almost full screen. That hides all the other windows you were trying to expose by moving the target window in the first place. After processing this unexpected surprise you then have to restore the window to the size you want and to the location you want. And you have try yet again to remember that in order to move a window to the top of the screen you must use an excessively precise mouse movement, making sure that the cursor does not encroach on the menu bar. This is totally unnatural because the casual, imprecise upward movement of the mouse to move a window all the way up is reflexively ingrained into the nervous system of essentially everyone. I would strongly request that the developers make this feature optional, so that we can turn it off. Otherwise Magnet does more harm than good for me.

Clear Focus

I’ve become a big fan of this app. It has really helped me organize my Desktop space, which has actually helped me become more focused.

Good at what it does and slick

The two main problems with an otherwise useful app are the issue where it pops to full screen too soon. If you drag a window up, there is a small zone where it senses. You can see this as a white line appears warning you, it is about to change. In theory, it warns you, hey, if you keep moving the *mouse* up, the window will go full screen. The trick is to not let go but to back off when you see that line, THEN you will not pop to full screen. However, this little full screen trigger zone, could be a few pixels smaller. Maybe. or you just need to get used to how that WORKS. :-) Also, I wish there was an option so that, if I have a bunch of windows stacked upper left (or right or where ever) that, instead of them being right on top, that they spread out (whatever that is called) so I can see, oh, that is a stack with more windows under it! But so far, this is a very useful window arranging app.

Simple to Use, Heavily used

I’ve used Cinch, Better Touch Tool, and couple of other tools whose name I can’t even remember. This tool gets the job done. The shortcuts have been ingrained into my memory after about 2 days. Now its just second nature to use magnet to divvy my screen (oh yea divvy was another tool lol). Obviously this can be enhanced but I hope future iterations will still be just as simple and that making the tool more powerful will not affect its simplicity. Overall modeern and very intutivie and clean interface. You will not be disappointed!

Love it

I don’t know why Apple couldn’t figure out how to multi-task on their OS….but this app will solve all of you problems.

its great

does what i want and more. what more does a user want

Room for Improvement

As with many others, I like the idea of this but the customization is lacking. When putting my browser to the sides it is just too small for the sites that I use most often and especially for work. If it was just half an inch wider, the formatting would be better optimized. That being said, what I would like to see is the option to have preset configurations so that when you open apps, whether it be based on the app or where you would put the window it had a default layout. Example: I use slack in the bottom left corner, text wrangler on the top left and chrome for the rest of the screen. By default, Slack and Wrangler are too big so ideally, I could make their default size customized to what I would like allowing for the simple docking of the apps to the size and placement that I would like. If something like that was in the next coming updates I would be using it much more, while I don’t necessarily regret the purchase, I wouldn’t have bought it until this update was out. Not sure why Apple can come up with everything else under the sun, but this option which is readily available for many other platforms can be down easily

Awesomeness From Word Go!

I dont do alot of reviews but this one deserves it. It has definitley given me much more productivity especially when moving between applications. Always seem to need the room and this app makes it super easy!! Great app guys highly recommend.

Great app, Worth the pennies.

This app is very useful and really helps me be productive splitting my screen. I love it and use it literally every day. 5/5, highly reccomend.

Why did I cheat on “better snap tool"

This doesn’t work on windows from Parallels, has 1/2 the features, and Better Snap Tool is better.

Good little app

Good little app does what it says. I have run into problems with it an Default Folder but a later update to DF fixed it.

MARVELLOUS!

I have rarely had an application help more than this. Special pricing made the deal a lot better and I am estatic with my decision. Magnet has given my life 4 more dimesions. No longer do I have to use the inbuilt system or deal with hassles of ads on the free split screen apps. This is undoubtedly a must have for me. In 15 days I’ve snapped over 200 times. If you’re student or in data mining or any sort, love multi tasking - this is SUCH a useful app. I am saw some reviews about it not turning off? Why would you want to turn something this awesome off?! Don’t even think of it get this app right now!! I had it downloaded on 4 different computer the same day with different accounts and I have no regrets! This add value to your mac. Excellent job Thank you Magnet Developers.

Extremely Useful

Performs exactly as advertised — no more, no less. Extremely easy to use. Highly recommend!

Love it!!

I got this app when it was on sale but I deff recommend it to everyone at full price becaue it has helped me become very productive in my work. Great App!!

GREAT

I don’t know what else to say. Honestly, they should charge more for this. It is the best money I have spent regarding an apple produce thus far. Thanks magnet!

Great answer to window snapping.

Snapping windows side by side was one thing, I mean, one thing that I missed from switching from a Windows 7 PC to a Mac. This app does exactly what I need: quickly resizes windows to fit them on a single desktop without having to maximize both windows and merge them like the new update for OS X El Capitan allows. It’s neat, but takes too long for something you want in a hurry. Magnet makes me not miss Windows 7 and as of right now, is a great improvement for OS X’s answer.

Great but just one feature request

This app is superi intuitive and very inconspicuously present in the background which is great. Also the ability to set my own shortcuts is super helpful. I request the developers to devise a solution to address the problem of having two screens running side by side (one can be some arbitrary window and the other a browser playing a YouTube video) and having one of the two be able to play video in “fullscreen” (on just the half that it is split on), like it can on Apple’s version of split-screen. This may be an issue with Apple’s software itself but I’d love to see some solution implemented. Otherwise super satisfied and only a dollar, totally worth it!

Love it!

I’m surprised that Apple hasn’t made this part of its latest OS. I know in the last mac update you can not snap to have two windows side by side, Apple’s way of doing this is cumbersome. Magnet is incredibly easy to use and works great. It even works with MS Office programs (which the latest Apple update “snapping tool” doesn’t.) The only issue I have with it is, like some other reviews, the snapping to maximize the window to full screen is a little too sensitive. Maybe if they set the boundaries for moving the mouse all the way to the top of the screen (like it does when you move it to the left or right of the screen) and then snap it to full screen - that would be much better in an updated version of the app because if your mouse even gets close to crossing the “border” of the top toolbar it will maximize the window if you let go of the mouse click. Other than that I use this EVERY SINGLE DAY. love being able to put to document windows side by side. Keep of the good work. I’m guessing that it won’t be too long before Apple steals this idea and improves upon their own “window snapping” tool. But this app is well worth getting if you don’t like having to resize your windows manually.
